After a special panel spent the weekend looking at more than 400 resumes, Governor Nathan Deal could get the final list of candidates to replace six suspended members of the DeKalb County School board Monday.

The five-member panel picked 55 candidates to interview and says it has about 15 to go. They expect to talk to all of those candidates Monday.

Once all of the candidates have been interviewed, the panel will pick two candidates per district and send those 12 names on to the governor.

"I'm very comfortable with the kind of work they're doing," said state Senator Fran Millar (R-Dunwoody).

But interim superintendent Michael Thurmond isn’t paying much attention.

“I have not followed it,” Thurmond told Channel 2 Action News. “I have not looked at the list one time because I'm focused on my job and my job is to lead the district."

Part of his job is trying to talk parents in Dunwoody out of plans to create their own school district.

Thurmond held a town hall meeting last night and asked those fed up parents for a little bit of time so and he the new school board can clean things up.

"I am here to listen, to learn and then to lead," Thurmond told parents Sunday night.

"He has the experience of being an executive. He's not an educator, we've had educators and it hasn't worked so I guess I am optimistic," said mother Stacy Harris.

Meanwhile, Governor Nathan Deal is expected to meet with the NAACP Monday to address their concerns about the governor having power to remove elected school board members from office.
