General Motors announced its plans to open an information technology center on Mansell and Warsaw roads in Roswell.

General Motors is bringing high technology and high paying jobs to Roswell.

The automaker has officially announced it will be taking over the old UPS building, at Mansell and Warsaw Roads, and turn it into an IT center.

"At GM we're undergoing one of he most profound transformations in corporate history," says GM Vice President Randy Mott.  "We're in the midst of one of the largest global product expansions in our history."

Mott says that will necessitate more tech centers for the company, which is redesigning its fleet.

"By the end of this year, in just the U.S., we will have replaced about three-quarters of our cars and trucks over a two year period," says Mott.  "The new models are cleaner, more advanced and more efficient."

GM's Roswell facility will be the third of four tech centers the automaker is opening in the country.

"To achieve our goals, we're moving a majority of GM's IT workforce in-house instead of outsourcing, which has been the GM model for more than most of the last three decades," Mott says.

The tech center will mean about a thousand new jobs in Roswell over the next three to five years.  And, Mott says, they will be high paying jobs.

"We're now hiring software developers, project managers, database experts, business analysts and other IT professionals," he says.

The company will begin interviewing job applicants as early as next week.

GM is looking for recent college graduates as well "seasoned professionals and experts."

GM's other two existing tech centers are in Warren, Michigan and Austin, Texas.
