Get ready for the deep freeze

WSB meterologist Kirk Mellish is predicting a blast of arctic air will move into metro Atlanta on Wednesday and stick around through Saturday.

“Some spots may spend 38 consecutive hours below freezing,” says Mellish. “Take precautions now for plants and autos.”

High temperatures will stay in the upper 30s to low 40s on Wednesday. Lows will bottom out between 11-and-16 degrees.

“Any flurries Wednesday with the arctic front arriving will stay in the the mountains,” says Mellish. “They won’t be significant, if they occur at all.”

It’s going to be very windy too. Windchills Wednesday evening and Thursday morning will be around zero degrees for some, below zero for others. Air temperatures on Thursday will struggle to get above freezing. Lows stay in the upper teens for many.

There is a slight warm up on the way Friday. Highs will reach the low 40s.

Mellish is expecting plenty of sunshine with just passing clouds at times next 5 days. Highs will stay in the mid-40s. Overnight lows fall back below freezing.

Winter won’t end with a new week either.

“We will keep our eyes toward any freezing drizzle questions as we move through Sunday,” says Mellish.
