Georgia Pre-K program turns 20 years old

By Daphne Young

It's Back to School time for most children in Georgia.  And, this year the state's Pre-K program is celebrating a milestone.  Georgia's Pre-K program turns 20 years old.

Assistant Commissioner, Susan Adams says Georgia ranks among the top states when it comes to our Pre-K curriculum.  This year Georgia is one of five states that meets all 10 of the quality standards.  Some 84,000 Georgia 4-year-olds take part in the program.  That adds up to about 66-percent of the state's Pre-K students.

More good news for the award winning program, this year 10 school days will be added to the calendar as a result of budgeting.

Adams invites any parent with a child who turns 4-years-old by September 1st, to register for the program.  Call 404-656-5957 or 1-888-442-7735.  Adams says one of the great things about the Georgia Pre-K program is that extends to local childcare centers, elementary schools, university and technical schools and also military bases.
