Georgia congressman joins gun control debate

By Andrew Spencer

Some people have tried to avoid the gun control conversation, but five days after the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School, the issue is clearly now on the table.

A Georgia Republican often backed by the NRA believes now is an appropriate time to talk about gun control -- but not exclusively.

"I think we would be remised if we didn't also include influence of video games or desensitizing kids and Hollywood, if we don't talk about mental health," says 10-term Congressman Jack Kingston. "Obviously, that's a huge part of this picture."

Following the killings of 26 people -- mostly kids -- during a shooting rampage in Connecticut, Kingston says it's important to look at what effect gun control laws have.

"We need to learn more about it," says Kingston, "because it seems that these shooting sprees are becoming more commonplace and even happening in areas where they have stricter gun control that is designed to try to prevent them."
