Georgia authorities will join thousands of police officers nationwide to crackdown on drunk driving.
Now through the Labor Day Holiday, police across the country will take part in crackdown under the slogan: "Drive Sober, or Get Pulled Over."
“The message is short and sweet,” Harris Blackwood, director of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, said in a statement. “Drinking alcohol and driving is no present for anyone so if you plan to consume alcohol, you better plan for a sober driver to get you home safely.”
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates more than 10,000 Americans die in crash associated with alcohol.
This is the worst time of year for DUI crashes. Authorities seem more alcohol-related wrecks from mid-August through Labor Day.
So expect more police officers out there to stop those who can’t stop themselves.
“They will make sure people are driving in the right frame of mind,” said National Highway Traffic Safety Administration director David Strickland. “If you are driving impaired you will get busted and you will go to prison.”
Strickland says police will set up many police DUI checkpoints to catch impaired drivers.
