Fulton County’s recount also drawing the state’s attention

The Secretary of State says there's "urgency" in sorting out Fulton County's election mess.

Now there are questions about this week's recount in the sheriff's race.  It found Ted Jackson the winner, just as on primary day July 31st.  Challenger and former sheriff Ted Lankford had claimed he was just 37 votes shy of forcing a runoff.

However, Secretary of State Brian Kemp tells Channel 2 Action News, "I think there's certainly some concern about the way the recount was done."

It appears vote re-counters used only master precinct cards, not the proper procedure of using individual cards from voting machines.

Lankford already threatened to go to the federal Justice Department with his complaints.

Fulton County's primary count was plagued by bizarre problems.  Four precincts had more than 100 percent turnout, in a primary that otherwise saw average 10-20 percent turnout statewide.  And one precinct totaled a 3300 percent turnout.

In addition, Fulton County failed to meet the deadline to certify its election results and faces a fine from the state.
