As more people pack onto  planes this summer,  travelers are getting grumpier.

A record number of travelers are expected to fly this summer. From June to August some 222 million passengers are forecast to fly on a U-S carrier, an average of 104,000 more per day than last year.

What you may not know is that the airlines have added more seats causing the seats to become smaller.  More seats  along with a record number of passengers is resulting in crowded planes with little elbow room and limited  space in the overhead bin.

WSB Consumer expert Clark Howard says planes are adding seats and cutting back on space. He says on some planes there is now one additional seat across and less room front to back on almost all planes.

The overhead bins are full because more people are doing "carry on" to avoid baggage fees. Howard says," I see it every week, there  is not enough room in the overhead bins and people start pushing and shoving."

The number of complaints against airlines has skyrocketed. Clark Howard says while this may be a problem that the airlines created, it's up to you and me to remember we are going to have a much better time if we are polite and considerate of each other.
