A replacement boiler was installed at Finch Elementary, but still needs to pass inspection before the building can be reopened.

Officials now believe that human error was involved in the carbon monoxide leak at Finch Elementary Monday. Superintendant Erroll Davis says that there is now a full investigation and they intend to quickly address the issues surrounding the leak.

"Its become apparent that the equipment in the school, was serviced on Friday prior to the Monday incident. This now has led us down a new path of investigation and that is the path of human error verus equipment failure," Davis says.

They have contacted two individuals who entered the school, and the boiler room, on Friday. Neither of the two came forward voluntarily.

Five families have retained a lawyer after their kids got sick from the carbon monoxide leak.

The lawyer wants to stay anonymous but did tell Channel 2 Action News “we want to make sure that this does not happen again.”

About 40 students and 10 adults had to go to area hospitals because of record amounts of carbon monoxide that had built up at Finch Elementary School. Investigators are blaming the school’s boiler.

Finch has been shut down since Monday and students are taking classes at Kennedy Middle School.

A temporary boiler arrived at Finch Wednesday and crews spent the day hooking it up. The fire marshal has been doing inspections and should be finished by Thursday morning. Once they’re finished, the school will be handed back over to the Atlanta Public Schools.
