DECATUR —

An adult and a child are dead and four others are hurt after they hit by a suspect fleeing from DeKalb County police.

The suspect was pulled over around 7 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Snapfinger Woods and East Wesley Chapel Road near Decatur.

DeKalb police were sweeping the area when they stopped the suspect's SUV.

“As an officer exited his unit and began to approach that SUV, the driver of the SUV rammed that police unit and then fled the location,” DeKalb police spokeswoman Mekka Parrish told News/Talk WSB.

The SUV was not seen again until officers found the crash scene on East Wesley Chapel Road, police said.

The SUV crashed into a red sedan. Three adult and three kids were inside, police said.

The two victims died at the scene. The other four were taken to various hospitals. Their conditions range from serious to critical, said Parrish. Their victims’ names are not being released.

Police are also not releasing the name of the suspect and the passenger in the SUV. Both were arrested.

Parrish said a family member of one of the suspects was also arrested at the wreck scene on an obstruction charge, according to police.

Police are still investigating the crash.
