State lawmakers from DeKalb County are angry over a suit filed by DeKalb County’s school board seeking to halt Thursday's meeting with the State School Board which could recommend removal of its members to Gov. Nathan Deal.

The hearing comes after the DeKalb School System was placed on probation by the SACS accrediting agency.

Sen. Fran Millar (R-Dunwoody) is outraged over the DeKalb board's latest move.

“The selfishness of some members of this board is just incredible,” he tells WSB’s Sandra Parrish.

The suit claims the 2011 law that allows to the governor to remove the board is unconstitutional.

“The question is we’re trying to get this resolved so we can keep our accreditation,” says Millar.

He says local board members are looking out for their own jobs and not the best interest for DeKalb’s 100,000 students or the economic development of the metro Atlanta area.

Millar believes the suit is only delaying the inevitable at taxpayers’ expense. The board has hired an outside firm at $250 an hour.
