Deering Rd., I-85 Lindbergh HOV exit closed for 6 months

Traffic down Peachtree Street and midtown Atlanta is always complicated. But now it’s about to get worse.

Deering Road, a major cut-through street from I-75 and Northside Drive to Peachtree, will be closed for six months starting Monday at 9 a.m.

The Department of Transportation is closing the road until the summer to do work on the parking lot and bridge at the AMTRAK station on Deering and Peachtree St. Engineers have determined that the small parking lot is structurally unsound.

The elevated lot, which is attached to the Peachtree Road bridge over I-85 and the railroad tracks, has been closed for several months.

While crews work to reinforce the parking lot and the bridge, Deering Road will be shut down until June 30th, with only local traffic allowed.

Drivers are being asked to use Collier Road or 17th Street as detours.

Meanwhile, commuters in northeast Atlanta will have their own major project to deal with.

The Lindbergh HOV exit from I-85 Southbound will be closed for half the year starting next Wednesday as part of the new I-85/Ga. 400 interchange construction.
