Major cutbacks at an 85-year-old Atlanta charity will have a big impact this holiday on children.

The Empty Stocking Fund, which provides toys to children, says they're donations have consistently gone down, about $400,000 since 2008.

Empty Stocking Fund Executive Director Manda Hunt tells Channel 2 Action News they had to make the tough decision to only help children up to age 12. The organization, which began in 1927, used to help underprivileged kids up to 13.

"We have built up a reserve account for these reasons exactly, for difficult times. We determined that we couldn't sustain the level of service that we've provided in the past," said Hunt.

Workers like Rick Harris know this will be really tough for the 13-year-olds.

"You got to keep the company running. We're gonna get way behind or we're gonna get into an area where we couldn't survive," said Harris.

William Bedor, a single dad who was out of work for two years, is giving back to the organization that him and his family through some tough times.

"They give so much and provide so much for all these children who wake up on Christmas morning and don't have anything," said Bedor.

Donations are still being accepted. The toys won't begin being distributed until November 30th.
