A Paulding County daycare teacher has been arrested for hiring someone to kill her ex-husband.

Corporal Ashley Henson tells WSB, Melissa Silvers, 48, thought she was hiring a hit man when in fact, that hit man was an undercover agent.

"They spoke multiple times over the past two weeks on the telephone.  They finally met in person on Thursday where they finalized plans, and Ms. Silvers actually gave the undercover agent the money, the portion of the money, for the job," said Henson.

The shooting was supposed to take place at the couple's home on Friday morning.

"It's my understanding that on Friday morning, Ms. Silvers' ex-husband was supposed to be at their home.  He was supposed to receive some firewood from the undercover agent and it was supposed to be done.  She was adamant she wanted it done outside so there was not a mess inside the residence," said Henson.

Silvers was arrested the next day at her job at Lost Mountain Academy Daycare.

Henson says although the couple divorced in January of 2012, Silvers' ex-husband allowed Melissa and the couple's two, young adopted children to live in his home.

Henson says they're still trying to determine a motive.  Silvers' ex-husband is said to be in shock.

"I don't think that he had any idea that this was coming," said Henson.

Silvers, who has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder, is in jail without bond.
