Adventure Outdoors owner Jay Wallace says demand for firearms is so high that he has had to double the number of gun safety classes. He holds them in a huge meeting hall over the firing range inside his store on South Cobb Drive.

"I've been doing this for over 36-years," Wallace said. "I've never seen [demand] the way it is now."

At the gun counter, customers like Dave Sevigny said that when someone buys a weapon to carry, they are buying peace of mind. In fact, Sevigny said, the more the better.

"You're going to want more than one gun, usually. One gun usually won't do it."

It is that kind of demand driving the number of concealed carry permits in Cobb County to double what it was just a year ago.

Probate records reportedly show 1,212 applications for concealed carry permits in Cobb County in December, 2012, compared to 642 in December, 2011. The vast majority of them - 843 - came in after the December 14 shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT.
