Robbing crew suspect caught with street justice

By Jon Lewis

The fourth alleged member of north Fulton County robbing crew has been apprehended, thanks to some street justice.

Alpharetta police had been hunting for Isaiah Burt, 25, after he, allegedly, ran off following a police chase.

It was the brother of one of the other suspects who ended up saving the police, no pun, a lot of legwork by shooting Burt in the leg.

Police say Burt was part of a four man snatch and grab ring that hit three stores at the North Point Mall on November 29.

After stealing a large amount of men's clothes from Macy's, Von Maur and Dillard's, the four got into a getaway car and sped off.  Police in the area gave chase.  When he suspects tried turning onto Georgia 400 they slammed into two other cars, damaging those vehicles and their own.

A flat tire forced he suspects to abandon their car at the Holcomb Bridge Road exit on 400 and run off.  Three suspects were quickly caught, but Burt got away.

Burt was able to elude the police, but not the family of one of the other suspects.

Atlanta police arrested Burt at Grady Hospital, where he went for treatment of a gunshot wound to his leg.  Burt told officers he had been shot by the brother of one of the men who was arrested for the thefts.

"It looks like street justice based on the code among criminals," Alpharetta Police Officer George Gordon tells WSB.  "This guy walks up and shoots him because his brother was arrested for the crime and he got away."

Gordon says Burt has not cooperated with the police about either the thefts or his shooting, saying only he was shot by the brother of one of the other suspects.

Burt is bei held in the Fulton County jail, charged with the North Point Mall thefts and warrants issued by other agencies.
