Police looking for cell phone robbers

Gwinnett County Police are looking for several suspects, possibly teenagers, involved in at least two cell phone robberies.

Corporal Jake Smith tells WSB the first incident happened in December in front of Berkmar High School when the suspects approached a group of teenagers.

"One of the suspects got out of that car and had a cell phone that was actually a stun gun.  He actually pulled out that cell phone-stun gun and attempted to taze one of the male suspects and then take that person's phone," said Smith.

The teens ran off but the suspects followed them to a nearby apartment complex.

"When the suspect’s vehicle pulled up to them at the apartment complex, one of the suspects pulled out a gun and actually robbed two of the male victims at gunpoint and he took their new model iPhones from them," said Smith.

The following day the suspects were spotted again at Gwinnett Place Mall.  Smith says the suspects approached a victim asking to borrow that person's cell phone.

"As soon as the suspects had it in hand, they ran to a waiting vehicle that matched the description of the incident the previous day," said Smith.

In this case, the victims managed to get a tag number for the white vehicle that looked like a taxi.

Police spotted the vehicle later that day and arrested one of the suspects.  19-year-old Harra Oumer has been charged with two counts of armed robbery.

"We are still looking for as many as four other suspects.  In both cases, they describe there being an entire car full of people.  And so we know we're looking for at least three more, possibly four more suspects," said Smith.

He says they're also trying to determine if the group is responsible for similar thefts in the area.

"We've seen a lot of thefts and robberies of cell phones in recent months, in recent years really.  There are some that loosely match this same description," said Smith.
