Bank scene
WSB-TV
A shooting broke out at the Capitol City Bank & Trust Company on Memorial Drive sometime Friday morning.

'Tis the season for burglaries. Today two bank robberies took place, one in Gwinnett, the other in DeKalb.

Authorities in Gwinnett are looking for two bandits who mounted a "takeover-style" armed robbery of a Wells-Fargo bank on Highway 29 near the intersection of Bethesda School Road.

The robbers are described as two masked black males, one armed with what was described as a "shotgun".

"They got away with some cash," Gwinnett Police Cpl. Jake Smith tells WSB.  "Our officers got behind them later, (the robbers were in a stolen vehicle) unfortunately, the suspects got out of the vehicle and fled into the woods.  At this point, we have not been able to locate them."

The suspects were last seen in the area of Harrington and Cruse Road in Lawrenceville.

It is not immediately known whether this robbery is connected today's bank heist in Stone Mountain, which ended with deputies shooting one suspected bandit.

Further south, authorities in DeKalb say a man tried to rob a bank on Memorial Drive Friday morning.

According to DeKalb Sheriff's Office, a plain-clothed deputy, who was cashing his paycheck at the Capitol City Bank & Trust Company at the time of the attempted robbery, shot at the suspect.

The suspect apparently crashed through a bank window to flee the scene, but was apprehended and taken to a hospital.
