With the help of East Point police officers, members of the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force went to a room at the Crowne Plaza hotel on Virginia Avenue near Hartsfield-Jackson Airport to arrest a man wanted for the sale of methamphetamine and possession of explosives.
The Marshals broke through the door of his hotel room, and the suspect challenged them with a handgun. East Police Sgt. Allyn Glover says they, "were forced to shoot the suspect."
The suspect was taken to Grady hospital in stable condition.
The MARTA bomb unit was called in as a precaution to check the room and the suspect's car for explosives, but Glover said they found none.
East Point police told Channel 2 Action news that GBI agents are now taking over the case because it is a police-involved shooting.
