Riverdale, GA —
25-year-old David Rucker died trying to protect his family. Thursday night, gunmen got into his Brooks Crossing apartment on Taylor Road in Riverdale through a window.
Police chief Samuel Patterson said officers found a chair on an outside air conditioning unit and the back window open.
Rucker's wife said, "she could hear the blinds moving." She told police her husband told her to grab the kids and stay in the master bedroom. Rucker was struggling with one of the gunmen, trying to keep him from getting into the kid's bedroom.
His wife found Rucker face down in the hallway, he'd been shot once in the chest.
According to Chief Patterson, Rucker died at Southern Regional Medical Center.
The wife was able to describe one of the gunmen as a black male, wearing a ski mask and gloves.
There are no suspects.
