Atlanta —

Another sign the economy may be turning around... fewer vacant strip centers.

Real estate analyst firm Reis, Inc. tells the AJC that Metro Atlanta's vacancy rates have been falling faster than the rest of the nation's even though metro Atlanta's stands at 14.1 percent compared to 10.9 percent for the rest of the country.

The rate in Metro Atlanta dropped by .3 percent compared to .1 percent on average for the nation.

Areas like Buckhead, East Cobb and around Perimeter Mall have seen the biggest drops.

The company says increased retail activity leads to more jobs, higher tax revenue, and increased optimism in communities hard hit by vandals.
