DeKalb Police are investigating a shooting at a funeral at the Victory for the World Church on North Hairston Road.

Public Safety Director Wiz Miller says a funeral for 19-year-old Ryan Guider, who was killed on May 27th, had just wrapped up at Victory for the World Church when gunfire broke out in the parking lot.

"Just as the people were about to exit the church an altercation broke out in the parking lot there was some shots fired.  Apparently two people involved in that shooting incident were struck," said Miller.

One person died on the scene, the other died en route to the hospital.

Miller says when he arrived at the church, he saw a number of people whom he described as walking wounded.

"I don't know if they were the result of gunfire or they fell.  I heard the scene was very chaotic.  People were hiding under cars trying to get away from the gunfire," said Miller.

Several people were taken into custody shortly after the shooting.

"We immediately started detaining people.  One of our officers was able to get behind the suspicious vehicle, stopped it.  It had about three to four people inside.  Again, we're not sure if that vehicle contained the subject responsible for Mr. Guider's death.  Initially we heard it was, now we're trying to get confirmation on that," said Miller.

Miller said officers had staked out the service since there were arrest warrants were for Marcus Ventress.  According to police, Guider broke into the house of Ventress' mother and then punched her.

"I believe some marshals or either the fugitive squad were staking out this funeral looking for him.  I don't know if it was one of them who spotted him, so that's how close we could've come to finding him if he was the one in fact here," said Miller.
