Robbery targets family set for mission trip

By Judd Hickinbotham

FULTON COUNTY —

Thieves broke into a home in south Fulton County, stealing from a family that was set to go on a mission trip in a few weeks.

Debbie Ice tells Channel 2 Action News they lost their safe, containing thousands of dollars for their trip to Mexico, as well as her husband's passport. The thieves also stole thousands of dollars' worth of electronics.

Ice says she thinks the suspects must have been watching their home.

"I think the neighborhood kind of knows our routine, that every Sunday we leave for a couple hours," said Ice. "So we come back to. . .nothing."

Ice says her 80-year-old father was upstairs during the break-in, but was not hurt.

She also says the incident has taught her sons a tough lesson.

"It's just hard for them to see that while you're helping other people, other people are helping themselves to your stuff."
