Pitches for and against the upcoming transportation tax vote have come from all corners of metro Atlanta.

Now it’s coming from the pulpit.

Sen. Vincent Fort (D-Atlanta) took his stance on the TSPLOST to the congregations of four Atlanta churches Sunday.

"I'm going to make sure when you leave here this morning you are going to have the truth about voting on July 31," Fort told the congregation.

Among the churches Fort shared the “truth” with was Calvary Missionary Baptist Church.

“These folks have $8 million wanting you to vote for the TSPLOST, but what they are not telling you when you go to the store to get your milk and bread you are going to have to pay an extra penny,” Fort said.

Fort says he will continue to speak to churches and neighborhood associations from now until the July 31st vote.

Voters in 10 metro Atlanta counties are deciding on one-cent sales tax that would fund transportation projects around the area.

Backers of the TSPLOST say the money will help improve the gridlock in the metro area. But it's not looking good for their side. A new poll shows only 33 percent support for the referendum.
