Atlanta residents fed up with local strip club

By Judd Hickinbotham

ATLANTA —

Residents in a north Atlanta neighborhood say they're fed up with a local strip club that keeps them awake during all hours of the night.

Diamonds of Atlanta opened on Marietta Boulevard a few months ago.

Residents in the area tell Channel 2 Action News they were against the idea from the beginning, even sending letters to the city council. They say they are definitely against the club now, after patrons walk near their condos well after midnight.

"We do get a lot of traffic back through here," says neighbor Gerald Lopez. "We've seen people urinate back here."

"When the club lets out around 2 or 3 o'clock in the morning, I mean, I don't know where these people are going, but you just get this flux of people walking through here," says Charles Graham, president of the homeowners association.

In addition to the patrons, residents say the noise coming from the club is a big problem, as well.

The club was cited for noise violations by the city of Atlanta last month, but the club's owner tells Channel 2 Diamonds of Atlanta is being singled out because it includes adult entertainment.

"It's the type of behavior that comes out of this club that we're having problems with," says Lopez. "And we would like it, just, eradicated."
