By Jennifer Griffies

An Atlanta City Councilman wants to crackdown on aggressive panhandlers.

Michael Bond tells Channel 2 Action News he thinks harsher punishment would keep panhandlers from aggressively harassing people on the streets, causing them to feel threatened.

HeĀ  thinks putting them behind bars may curb the problem.

"We're only looking at aggressive panhandlers," said Bond.

He wants those who've been arrested three times to spend up to six months in jail.

"There's one individual who was arrested as many as 75 times for aggressive panhandling," said Bond.

Atlanta Police say in the past year, they've arrested 542 people for panhandling.
