Application sought for DeKalb School Board

Atlanta —

Gov. Nathan Deal is now accepting applications to fill the spots of the six DeKalb County school board members he is suspending.

Applicants have until March 6 to submit their information including the district seat they're applying for, their resume, and statement of interest.

Angela Palm with the Georgia School Boards Association had hoped for a recall effort rather than removal, but says her organization is there to help the new members in any way.

“They’re going to have to get put in place and come up to speed really fast... and certainly will be there to offer any help that we can,” she tells WSB’s Sandra Parrish.

Palm is hopeful the process for applicants will move as quickly as possible.

“I just hope for the stake of the district that it will be a quick, streamlined process so they can get back to having a quorum and being able to do the business of the district and for the sake of the kids,” she says.

Applications can be sent to:  dekalbschoolboardnominations@georgia.gov

The board members, who have filed suit against the state, still have a hearing in federal court Friday seeking to overturn Georgia’s law that allows the governor to remove them.
