More than a year after 15 syringes were found in items purchased at the Cartersville Walmart, another syringe has been linked to the same store.
But the latest syringe is not believed to be linked to the previous incidents, Sgt. Jonathan Rogers with the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.
“This was in a sealed package that was purchased at Walmart,” Rogers told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “The previous incidents involved the syringe being placed in items at Walmart.”
In the most recent incident, reported last week, a 52-year-old Bartow County man called police after purchasing a bag of birdseed from Walmart, according to the incident report. The man told deputies that when he opened the bag, he was stuck by a sharp object that he then realized was a needle, the report states.
In November 2011, several customers reported finding needles in clothing items purchased at the same store, including a woman whose finger was pricked as she reached into a box. The needles were sent to the GBI crime lab for testing and store officials said they were reviewing surveillance videos, but no arrests have been made.
