Throat-slit dog finds new home

By Jennifer Griffies

A dog whose throat was slit for apparently barking too much has a new home.

Monika Wesolowski is a volunteer at The Animal League of Northwest Georgia, and she tells WSB, Braveheart's story broke her heart.

"The whole story had really shook me.  It was terrible. His picture of his injury is just the sickest thing I've ever seen," said Wesolowski.

It's believed that neighbors wanted the pit bull to stop barking so they slit its throat.

She says she was originally just going to foster him but adopting him out was no easy task.

"I knew whoever adopted him would have to have a lot of patience, would have to have a fence, would have to keep an eye on him.  And honestly, I just didn't trust anyone else to have him," said Wesolowski.

So after months of trying to find him a permanent home, she says she knew he would be better off with her.

"He's been wonderful and that's pretty much another reason I kept him because he pretty much just crawled into my heart as quick as he could," said Wesolowski.

Wesolowski, who has a Facebook page for Braveheart, says she just wants to get his story out and bring attention to animal abuse.

"Animal abuse is terrible.  What happened to him is sick.  Whoever is out there that did it, they're gonna start on a dog and end up doing it to a person," said Wesolowski.

No arrests have been made in the case and a $2,500 reward is being offered for information in finding those responsible.
