The Georgia State Patrol Friday identified the two people killed when a car allegedly fleeing from a state trooper wrecked Thursday night in Newton County. Two others were also injured.

Around 9:35 p.m., a trooper attempted to stop a Honda Accord traveling at a high rate of speed and passing vehicles illegally on Ga. 36, south of Covington, according to Gordy Wright, GSP spokesman.

“As the vehicle continued toward Covington, the trooper activated his lights and siren to try and stop the vehicle but the driver refused to stop,” Wright said in an emailed statement.

While trying to pass a vehicle near Cedar Creek Drive, the Honda’s driver then lost control of the car, causing it to rotate, Wright said. The Accord traveled into the oncoming travel lane, where it was struck on the right side by a Honda Pilot.

Wright said the driver of the Accord, Donald Justin Barnes, 27, of Covington, and his passenger, Kimberly Nicole Anglin, 30, of Covington, died at the scene.

The driver of the Pilot, 17-year-old William Nicolaus Tanner of Covington, and his 18-year-old passenger, Amy Michelle Danieki, also of Covington, were taken to Atlanta Medical Center for treatment, Wright said. Their conditions were not immediately available.
