AG Sessions fires former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe

Attorney General Jeff Sessions has fired former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, effective immediately.  McCabe stepped down from his post in January, and was planning to retire on Sunday, March 18, his 50th birthday.

McCabe joined the FBI in 1996 and rose through the ranks, becoming the deputy to then-FBI director James Comey in early 2016. McCabe was tasked with overseeing several high-stakes investigations, including several involving Hillary Clinton.

According to federal guidelines, McCabe would have been eligible for early retirement benefits, given his 20-plus years of service,  effective this Sunday. The firing now places his federal pension in question.
