Missing woman, 2 kids found unharmed in south Atlanta

The search continues for the suspects responsible for a weekend carjacking that led to an overnight Amber Alert for a woman and her two children, ages 7 and 10, in south Atlanta.

Atlanta Police say Derah Jenkins and her two children went missing for about 13 hours, but were found alive and doing alright.

The incident started around 7:00 Friday night near the corner of Bass Street and Reed Street near Turner Field.

Neighbors tell Channel 2 Action News the children's father was driving the car, and was shot in the chest during the carjacking. But the suspects pushed Jenkins back into the vehicle and forced her to drive off.

A short time later, police issued an Amber Alert for the three victims. They were finally found just before 8:30 Saturday morning at the Mall West End, west of their abduction.

Channel 2 Action News' Amanda Cook says she saw Jenkins on the scene with an ice pack on her head. Jenkins complained to police about headaches, but otherwise seemed to be doing alright. The children were believed to be unhurt. The father was only grazed by the bullet, and has been released from the hospital.
