Carroll County, GA - Police in Marietta and across the north metro area were on the lookout last night for a young mother who apparently just couldn’t wait for the bus to get where she was going.
However, according to WSB's Richard Sangster, the woman is now in custody and the kids are fine. The search fended on I-20 in Carroll County when 27 year old Nicole Evans was arrested and taken the Carroll County Jail. The two children have been reunited with their father in Roswell.
Early Tuesday evening, Evans, first tried to steal a taxi cab, but was thwarted, according to police.
“So she went across the street to the gas station where she placed her two small kids into a work truck and stole it,” explained Marietta Police Officer Dave Baldwin.
The truck’s owner, who was inside the gas station at the time, jumped on the vehicle and tried to stop the woman, said Baldwin.
“He was dragged for just a little way before he became separated from the vehicle,” Baldwin said. The truck owner suffered minor injuries and was in good condition, according to police.
Investigators tracked down the truck in Carroll County near the Alabama state line. According to Channel 2 Action News, there was a chase and Evans hit one of the deputy's cars then crashed herself.
Carroll Co. Sheriff's deputies charged Evans with theft, aggravated assault, reckless conduct, and cruelty to children. She is also charged with 19 traffic offenses.
