Gwinnett County, GA - Gwinnett County Police have found the boat that was stolen over the Memorial Day. Mark Cooley and his family planned to get the boat ready so their son, who has struggled for three years with Leukemia, would be able to have some fun on Lake Lanier.
The $35,000 boat was stolen though, but has turned up, what's left of it, in Gwinnett County.
Cooley tells Channel 2 Action News the thief stripped the boat to its shell.
"Instrument panel is all missing. Had a wake board tower, a black wake board tower was here with speakers and a wake board rack that's missing," said Cooley.
Cooley says he's glad the boat has been found but is frustrated over the boat's condition.
"It's an emotional thing. When you spend money, you spend your time and energy and effort and you make money and you go buy something for recreation and then somebody steals it and takes it away from you. Um, it's, it's, I can't even describe it. It's heartbreaking," said Cooley.
A black truck was caught on surveillance video driving by where the boat was stolen.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Hall County Sheriff's Office at 770-531-6885.
Cooley hopes the person responsible will turn himself in.
"I encourage you to do the right thing," said Cooley.
