SkyView Atlanta close to being ready

You might get to climb on that big planned ferris wheel at Centennial Olympic Park sooner than you think.

"We're hoping to be open by next weekend," general manager Michael Montgomery tells Channel 2 Action News. "The rain doesn't stop us. The only thing that's going to slow us down is the lightning."

Montgomery says the 200-foot tall wheel still must pass several safety inspections. He says every day there is a three-hour safety inspection of SkyView Atlanta.

"If we get a late start on inspections because of bad weather, we'll open later. We will compromise that one bit."

He says the wheel has been able to come together so quickly because, after the wheel was disassembled in Florida, it's been very easy to put it back together.

Workers now have the massive pieces in place to begin building the wheel.
