Pickens County authorities are assuring parents of a middle school that their kids are safe.  On Tuesday, parents received a letter informing them of a possible sexual assault that may have occurred on the campus of Pickens County Middle School.

Lt. Kris Stancil with the Pickens County Sheriff's Office tells WSB they've confirmed that a sexual assault has occurred, but they're trying to determine if it happened on campus and during school hours around September 19th.

"We're trying to seek out all the evidence from the video cameras and other statements from students and from faculty as well," said Stancil.

The authorities were notified by a hospital after the parents of the eighth-grader took him there for treatment following the alleged assault.

 The alleged suspect is also believed to be a student.

"There's no information to make anyone believe that there are any other students at risk.  It appears to be isolated and we're doing all we can to beef up security within the school, to beef up the presence of law enforcement there to help parents feel more at ease," said Stancil.
