Police: 10 young children left at home alone

Lilburn Police have charged two women with cruelty to children after investigators say they left ten children ages eight months to ten years home alone for at least 30 minutes.

Capt. Thomas Bardugon tells WSB's Sandra Parrish the home on Arrowind Drive belongs to Melissa Brown and some of the children were hers. The other woman charged, Tusharia McKoy, is believed to have driven Brown to rent a U-Haul during that time.  Some of the children belonged to McKoy.

A woman, who told police she was coming to pick up a blanket at the home, heard the children crying inside, but waited 20 minutes with no one coming to the door. She phoned Brown who told her that her sister was supposed to be watching the kids.

The woman then called police who entered the home through a backdoor.

Once inside, police found the ten kids huddled together on a bed crying.  Police also found a bathtub that was nearly filled with water and safety-locks on a cabinet that contained household cleaners were not working. Two upstairs windows without screens were also found open.

Bardugon says they believe Brown was operating an unlicensed daycare and she could face additional charges.
