Atlanta - Police are investigating th robbery of a wheelchair-bound woman in Atlanta.

Channel 2's Amy Napier Viteri talked to the victim who said the thief offered to help her before robbing her.

The woman, who asked to be identified only as Christine, said she noticed a young man watching her as she came to Family Dollar on Marietta Boulevard to run errands. When her wheelchair became stuck, she said the man approached from behind and offered to help. Instead, he robbed her.

"He's right behind my chair and he says, 'Do you need some help?' I said, 'No thank you, I don't,' and he reached over the back headrest of my chair," Christine said, "He just reached over, picked up my bag, and turned around and walked off with it."

Christine said the suspect emerged from a nearby wooded area. She was already suspicious of him because she noticed him the day before when he appeared to be following her as she left the store.

"I feel vulnerable because I can't walk," Christine said. She has been wheelchair-bound for six years due to spinal meningitis.

Christine reported the incident to police.

The next day, her boyfriend accompanied her to pick up medication at CVS where they saw the man again.

According to the police report, her boyfriend confronted the man. Christine said the man hit her boyfriend with a stick, then ran off and made a frightening threat.

"He said, 'I'm going to get a gun. I'm going to come back and use it,'" Christine said.

Police searched the area but didn't find the man. Christine said she's worried the man will continue to target others who are vulnerable.

"I'm angry because he's taken away my security," Christine said. "In four years I've never had to look over my shoulder. I do that now."
