Police warn customers who used SunTrust ATM

A warning from Henry County Police about identity fraud linked to an ATM. Investigators say some 225 customers of SunTrust may have had their accounts compromised.

Lieutenant Joey Smith with the Henry county Police Department says customers who used the Sun Trust ATM located at 942 Hwy 81 East in McDonough on August 1st between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. need to check their accounts.

"They knew from looking at surveillance video, here comes a gentleman, he's doing something with the ATM and he comes back later that night," Lt. Smith says that is how investigators were able to narrow down the day and time of when customers’ accounts may have been compromised.

He says the man may have been able to get card numbers as well as PIN information. He had installed a skimmer on the machine and he also had a camera to record customers PIN.

He says while most are SunTrust customers others may also be a risk because customers of other banks can also use a Sun Trust ATM.
