New turn signal for busy Cobb intersection

A busy intersection in Cobb County will get a brand new turn signal Wednesday afternoon.  Cobb County Spokesman Robert Quigley tells WSB it's a different kind of left turn signal and is aimed at making the intersection at Cooper Lake Road and the East-West Connector safer.

"The signal has a flashing, yellow arrow on it.  And what we're trying to do is reduce the number of accidents at this intersection," said Quigley.

This will be the second flashing light in Georgia.  Johns Creek installed the first one.

"Historically, this type of signal has been used in North Carolina, at a variety of different intersections and they show that the crash data that the number of crash accidents actually decrease by 37 percent," said Quigley.

He says this is a pilot program but they are considering at putting the signals at two potential sites:  one in front of The Avenue on Dallas Highway, another of Casteel Road.
