New rankings show our city parks need a boost

New rankings on city parks show our city could use a boost.

Atlanta ranks 42nd out of 60 cities in the Parks Index from the Trust for Public Land. Scoring just a two out of five, it says Atlanta needs improvement.

Our city ranks especially low for average park size and the percentage of overall land used for parks.

Atlanta also ranks especially low for its population living within a 10-minute walk of a public park, number of playgrounds in the city and how much money residents spend to keep parks going.

Minneapolis ranks first on the list, followed by New York, Boston, Portland and San Francisco. Atlanta ranks just behind Tulsa and Forth Worth. Fresno ranks dead last.
