Snow and sleet fell in north Georgia Tuesday morning as rain fell in most of metro Atlanta.  Terri Pope of the Georgia DOT. tells WSB that it was a heavy, wet snow that fell and plowing was underway.  Pope says plowing began  at 6 a.m.  Ten crews were dispatched to plow snow and spread salt and stone to provide traction on

Channel 2 viewers in Rabun and White counties sent in photos of the snow accumulations they woke up to early Tuesday. Viewers also reported snow in Ellijay in Gilmer County and in Habersham County.

On Facebook, viewers warned of snow and ice on Burnt Mountain way and Georgia 52 near Ellijay.

Towns County schools were delayed by two hours, and Union County schools by three hours.

Meteorologist Kirk Mellish says the rain today will give way to decreasing clouds with breezy conditions. Today's high will reach 57; lows tonight between 27 and 30.  Kirk says sunny skies on Wednesday with the high reaching 53.  Rain is expected to return by Friday.
