3 more arrested in murder of Marietta teen

Three young men have been arrested after the murder of a Marietta teen late last month. Already, two boys, 14 and 16 are behind bars accused in the murder itself.

Marietta Police said 19-year old Samario Kogar, Jordan Billinsly and Demetres Plasencio, both 18, along with an unnamed 16-year old and 18-year old Marquise Carruthers, robbed 14-year old Josue Chapa September 28. Plasencio said the four were looking for money to buy pot.

Around 11:30 p.m., police found Carruthers’ body alongside Marietta Parkway. He had been stabbed once in the chest.

Plasencio said he couldn’t believe it when he heard Carruthers was dead. “I’m shocked. I’m sad that it happened,” he told Channel 2 Action News last week.  “It wasn’t supposed to happen at all like that. Nobody’s life was supposed to be taken. And it was over weed.”

Chapa and 16-year old Brandon Betancourt were arrested the next day, accused of murdering Carruthers in retaliation for the robbery. Police say both will be tried as adults.

Police are still looking for 19-year old Samario Koger. If you see him, contact Detective Daniel Ohmann at 770-794-5372 or the Marietta Police Anonymous Tip Line at 770-794-6990.
