It should soon be easier to drive through some of Gwinnett County’s major intersections.
The State Department of Transportation is giving Gwinnett $600,000 to make improvements to the left turn lanes at six state routes, all major intersections in the county.
The left turn lanes will be extended on Buford Highway southbound at South Lee Street, Scenic Highway northbound at Jackson Street, Grayson Highway northbound at Web Gin House Road, Lawrenceville-Suwanee northbound at Satellite Boulevard, Beaver Ruin Road eastbound at on the west side of the I-85 interchange, and Buford Highway southbound at South Scales Road.
“It should reduce the number of cycles where they go through one, two, or three green lights without moving,” says Gwinnett Transportation Director Kim Conroy.
He tells WSB’s Sandra Parrish it should also help traffic flow easier through the intersections by preventing traffic from backing up into the through lanes.
The grant money is part of the Georgia D.O.T.’s Quick Response program that funds projects that can quickly be turned.
Conroy says construction is expected to begin this year on all six with completion set for early next year.
