With just a little more than a month to rehearse, the Georgia State marching band is the only band from Georgia to get an invitation to perform in President Barak Obama's inaugural parade Monday in Washington D.C.
GSU's marching band has only been performing for three years. Band Director Chester Philips tells WSB's Richard Sangster, the band received their invitation to perform December 17th, out of 2,000 applicants.
Drum Major Shawn Evans said, "the band will get to the D.C. area tonight and begin rehearsals Saturday morning".
The band will march in the middle of the parade on Monday and Evans hopes they'll be on TV.
"180 band members are traveling on 4 charter buses," Phillips said. "The band is staying in Fairfax Virginia and have made arrangements with a private school there for rehearsals Saturday and Sunday morning. The band will stage at the Capitol Monday Morning after they're screened by Secret Service agents."
