Here’s some good and bad news for your weekend: More rain is expected and a flood watch has been extended, but most road construction has been put on hold.
GDOT is restricting construction-related lane closures until 5 a.m. Monday.
“We anticipate heavy traffic over the Independence holiday week,” said Georgia Department of Transportation spokesman Thomas Howell, in a statement. “To lessen the impact on traffic, the GDOT has restricted lane closures on interstates and major state routes.”
A flash flood watch has been extended as a flood watch for all of metro Atlanta through Sunday morning. An addition of 1 to 2 inches of rain is possible heading into and through the weekend.
Rain chances will continue into early next week, but drier weather is possible with only scattered showers Tuesday and Wednesday.
The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning in effect until Saturday evening for the woodlands and fields along Big Creek in Forsyth and north Fulton counties.
