Two men are dead in what Cobb Police say was the metro area’s first fatal traffic wreck of the New Year.
It apparently started as a routine traffic stop around 5:15 a.m. on Wednesday, according to Cobb Police Sgt. Dana Pierce. A Marietta Police officer had pulled over a 2011 Chevy Camaro at Sandtown Rd. and Westside Dr. for a traffic violation. But as the Marietta officer walked up to the car, the driver sped off into Cobb County, crossing South Cobb Drive and losing control.
“Apparently the driver (was traveling) at such a high rate of speed when he crossed South Cobb Drive that he lost control and ran into a creek, then impacted the opposite bank,” explained Pierce. The two men, 28-year old Marquis Parker and 31-year old Fernando Edwards, both of Marietta, were both ejected from the vehicle. Both were dead on the scene. There’s no indication yet why the two men ran from police, according to Pierce.
