Ethics commission trial begins today

Trial is expected to begin today in Fulton County Superior Court in a lawsuit brought by the former deputy of the State Ethics Commission.

Sherry Streicker alleges her job was eliminated and her boss's salary cut in retaliation for an investigation into Gov. Nathan Deal's 2010 campaign reports.

Deal along with his chief of state and legal counsel have been subpoenaed as possible witnesses.

"I don't know that I know anything that will be relevant to the lawsuit, but I certainly will cooperate," he says.

Streicker's boss, Stacey Kalberman, is the former executive secretary of the ethics commission and has filed a separate lawsuit.

An attorney for the state asked Judge Ural Glanville to dismiss Kalberman's case during pre-trial motion Thursday.

The judge didn't immediately issue a ruling but did indicate there are questions a jury should consider.
