DeKalb County, GA - Some very special DeKalb County police officers will soon be getting some long overdue bullet-proof vests.
"Two of our K-9's, Andor and Tico, are going to be receiving the vests," says DeKalb County Police Captain Stephen Fore. "These are ballistic and stab proof vests which will help protect the K-9's."
The police put in an application for the vests and the department was chosen by Vested Interest, a nonprofit group that provides such vests for police officers.
"They've provided more than 500 vests to departments in 30 states," Fore tells WSB.
The dogs that will be getting the vests have been operating for the department without any protection.
"Prior to this they had not been equipped with ballistic vests," says Fore.
Vested Interest is expected to deliver the vests to the DeKalb County police department sometime in June.
