Clayton Co. officer shoots carjacking suspect

Clayton County police report an office involved shooting as a result of a car crash late Sunday night.

Clayton County police said one of their officers opened fire on a group of carjacking suspects.

The shooting happened when three suspects were running after crashing a stolen car into a pick-up truck parked on Brookstone Rd in Clayton. The cop was right behind them when the suspect turned and pointed his gun at the officer.

Clayton Police Sgt. Kevin Hughes said, "the officer fired, striking the subject once."

The wounded man was taken to a local hospital and is expected to recover. The other two suspect were still on the run late Monday morning.

The GBI is investigating shooting, the second in three days involving a Clayton Co. Officer. Late Friday night a man involved in a domestic dispute was shot and killed after shooting Officer Melvin Snell in the shoulder.
